Simple turnip stew

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 600 g swede(s)
  • 600 g potatoes
  • 2 large onions
  • 400 g streaky bacon
  • 30 g butter
  • 1 ½ liters chicken broth or chicken bouillon
  • 6 sausages, wieners
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • 200 g crème fraîche
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • Caraway powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 40 minutes

Peel the turnips, onions, and potatoes, then cut them into bite-sized pieces along with the sausages and bacon (watch out for the cartilage). Heat the butter in a large pot and sauté the onions briefly. Then add the turnips, potatoes, and bacon and sauté everything briefly again. Top up with the stock or bouillon and simmer for about 30 minutes. In the meantime, finely chop the parsley. After 30 minutes, add the sausages, crème fraîche, and parsley and simmer for another 30 minutes. Season to taste with pepper, salt, and caraway.
