Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg Maultasche(s), refrigerated counter or frozen
  • 250 g mozzarella, or a little more to taste
  • 1,000 g tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp pizza seasoning
  • 200 g cream
  • 3 tbsp crème fraîche
  • n. B. Salt
  • Pepper, from the mill
  • n. B. vegetables, to taste, frozen peas or broccoli
  • n. B. cooked ham, diced

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella

Separately, mix the cold tomato sauce in a large bowl: Whisk the passata with the cream and crème fraîche and thoroughly mix with a whisk. Season generously with salt, pepper, and pizza seasoning. Cover the bottom of a large, shallow baking dish well with the tomato sauce. Place the Maultaschen on top, preferably not on top of each other. Then pour the remaining tomato sauce over the top. Now, if you like, add frozen peas or blanched broccoli and/or diced cooked ham. Finally, arrange the thinly sliced mozzarella on top. Bake at 200 degrees Celsius for 30-40 minutes. This is a quick, easy, yet delicious dish using ready-made ingredients and without much effort. It would, of course, taste much better with homemade Maultaschen. The tomato sauce is delicious and can be used in many other casserole combinations, such as with tortellini. You can prepare the casserole in advance and keep it in the refrigerator until you bake it.
