Thaw the puff pastry according to the instructions. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line the bottom of a loaf pan with aluminum foil. Grease the sides and the aluminum foil thoroughly. Melt the butter. Roll out each sheet of dough to twice the size of a loaf pan and cut in half. Mix the nuts with 100g of sugar and the cardamom. Place one sheet of dough in the pan, brush with butter, and sprinkle with the nut mixture. Repeat this process until all the sheets and nuts have been used. Cover with a sheet of dough. Bake the pastry in the oven on the lowest rack at 200°C for 5 minutes. Then cut into 3 x 3 cm pieces down to the base. Melt the butter and pour over the sliced baklava. Finally, brush with egg yolk to create a nice crispy layer. Bake on the middle rack for 30 minutes until golden brown. Dissolve the saffron threads in 100ml of hot water. Dissolve the remaining sugar in it. Drizzle over the pastry, then bake for another 10 minutes. Let cool and enjoy.
