Polish sausage specialty Zapiekanki

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 2 fried or grilled sausages or Bockwurst
  • 2 slice(s) cheese (any kind), or grated cheese
  • 2 pickled gherkins (salted and dill gherkins)
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 2 tbsp fried onions, maybe more
  • Tomato ketchup or other sauces

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Preheat the oven to 150°C (fan). Cut the sausages in half lengthwise, leaving them open, and place them on a plate or directly on the baking sheet (cut-side up). Cut the cucumbers into small slices, using a grater to match the thickness of the sausage. Thinly slice or slice the onion and scatter it over the sausage. Add the fried onions as well. It tastes best with fresh onions and fried onions. Now distribute the cucumber slices over the sausage. Cut the cheese to the same width as the sausage and place it on top. Then carefully place it in the oven. Leave the zapiekanki in the oven for about 5 minutes, until the cheese has melted. Place the finished dish on the plates and, if desired, spread with tomato ketchup or other sauce.
