Fried bread from the Caribbean

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 300 ml water, approx.
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

The bread can be filled as desired.

Form the ingredients into a dough and let it rise for at least 30 minutes. Pour the oil into a pot and heat to 160 degrees Celsius. Form the dough into balls about 3 cm in size and roll them out to a thickness of about 3 mm. Place these flatbreads in the hot oil and fry. After about 20 seconds, the flatbreads will begin to bubble up. Carefully turn them over and fry the other side for about 20-30 seconds, until lightly browned. Remove the flatbreads from the pot, drain on a paper towel, and let them cool slightly. Cut the flatbreads lengthwise. The fried bread should be almost hollow and crispy on the outside. You can now fill it as desired.
