Cook the beans in hot water with the margarine until the beans are tender. The beans should be completely covered with water. Tip: Soak the beans in hot water overnight to reduce the cooking time. While the beans are cooking, peel and finely dice the onion. When the beans are tender, remove the pot from the heat. Sauté the onions until translucent, stir in paprika powder (if necessary or desired, add another 1 teaspoon of flour – but it will thicken). Deglaze with the stock from the cooked beans and quickly stir with a whisk to ensure there are no lumps. Return the mixture to the pot with the beans, season with salt and pepper (a dash of cream is fine, if desired), and simmer on low heat for another 30 minutes. Fresh, warm bread goes great with this! You can also cook 250g of beef or lamb in one piece with the beans as a meat garnish, if you like. It tastes delicious on its own!
