Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 10 small bell peppers (available from Turkish greengrocers)
  • 1 kg minced beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp rice
  • 1 onion(s), diced
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika powder
  • 2 tsp Vegeta (Croatian spice)
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion(s), diced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • ½ tsp paprika powder, smoked
  • 2 can/n tomatoes, pureed (total 800 ml)
  • 2 tbsp Vegeta

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 50 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 20 minutes

Wash the peppers, cut off the stems, and remove the seeds. Add the salt, rice, onions, pepper, sweet paprika, Vegeta, and egg to the ground beef, kneading continuously by hand. Knead everything thoroughly by hand. Then fill the peppers with the mixed ground beef. Form the remaining ground beef into balls. Heat a very large pot with oil and sauté the onions. Then add the flour and mix to form a roux. Stir in the paprika and the passata. Season with Vegeta and bring to a boil briefly. Now fill the pot with the peppers and meatballs. Cover everything with water and simmer for about 50 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes and white bread.
