American recipe
Combine flour, sugar, salt, and ice-cold butter, cut into small cubes, in a food processor (or with a hand mixer) until a crumbly dough forms. Gradually add a little water and mix briefly until the dough begins to stick together, then stop immediately. Press the dough into a disc on a floured surface. Wrap it in plastic and refrigerate for 20 minutes. On a floured surface, roll out the cooled dough flat to a diameter of approximately 28 cm. Place in a 9″ (inch) pie pan (alternatively: 23 cm round baking pan). The easiest way to transfer the dough to the baking pan is as follows: Flour the surface of the dough, fold it in half once (to form a semicircle), flour it again and fold it in half again (to form a quarter circle). You can now carefully lift the dough and place it exactly in the center of the pan. Now simply unfold it again and press it slightly into the pan. Fold the dough over at the edges and press down decoratively with a fork. Return to the refrigerator for another 30 minutes. In the meantime, heat the syrup, honey, butter and sugar in a saucepan until the sugar has dissolved. Let the mixture cool. Beat the eggs and vanilla extract together and stir into the cooled sugar mixture. Arrange the pecan halves closely together on the dough base and carefully pour the sugar mixture over them. The nut halves will move to the top during baking. Bake for 60 minutes at 175°C and let cool completely.
