American BBQ spare ribs that melt in your mouth

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1,400 g pork ribs, cut into portions
  • 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tsp paprika powder
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 garlic clove(s), squeezed (alternatively garlic powder)
  • 340 ml ketchup
  • 220 ml water
  • 2 tbsp Balsamic vinegar, dark (mild)
  • Chili powder or flakes (optional)

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 9 hours; Total time approx. 9 hours 15 minutes

a recipe for the crockpot (slow cooker)

Rinse the spare ribs under cold water and trim any excess fat. Place the meat in the crockpot. Mix the remaining ingredients well and pour over the spare ribs. Set the crockpot to “low” and cook for about 9-10 hours. Note: The cooking time depends somewhat on the texture of the ribs and personal preference—check the pot after about 8 hours. You can also line the bottom of the pot with a few onion rings to prevent sticking.
