The ultimate American-style BBQ spare ribs

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 kg pork spare ribs, cut into portions
  • 1 large onion(s), sliced
  • 400 ml sauce (BBQ sauce, preferably an original American one)
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 4 hours; Total time approx. 4 hours 15 minutes

a recipe for the crockpot (slow cooker)

Line the bottom of the crockpot with the onion rings. Add a little water so that the bottom of the pot is lightly covered. Rinse the meat with cold water and drain. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Then rub each spare rib with a little of the sauce and layer it staggered in the pot (they should touch the edges as little as possible). Add a little more sauce to each layer until the sauce is almost used up. Simply pour the rest of the sauce over the top. Put the lid on, set the crockpot on “high,” and let it simmer for about 4-5 hours. Alternatively, it can take 8-10 hours on “low.” I use a 6.5-liter crockpot. Tip: The flavor of the spare ribs depends on the sauce. So choose a quality product or simply use your favorite BBQ sauce!
