Place all ingredients in a bowl. Season with pepper, salt, and nutmeg, if desired, and mix thoroughly. Let the mixture swell for about 15 minutes, until it becomes very thick. Transfer the mixture to heat-resistant cling film and form into a log. Roll tightly and tie the ends like a sausage. Wrap the whole thing again in aluminum foil. Place in gently simmering water and cook for about 30 minutes. Unwrap the log, cut into slices, and fry on both sides in a pan. Serve with fried onions, diced ham, and a fresh salad.
