Butter and buttermilk

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 cup of sweet cream

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

Homemade butter

Pour the cream into a sealable jar and shake for about 10 minutes. The cream will stiffen when shaken (whipping cream). If you continue shaking, the fat will separate from the water, forming a lump of butter. Hold a sieve over a container and strain. Refrigerate the butter for 1 hour. Then you can use it for baking, cooking, or Sunday breakfast. The strained liquid is buttermilk; it tastes similar to regular milk and can be added to coffee or used to make hot chocolate. Have fun trying it out! You’ll be surprised at how much butter there is in a cup of sweet cream.
