Dish Sponge – Lemon Cake
The perfect dish sponge – lemon cake recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
Dough – sponge and scouring side
- 120 g Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- 135 g Soft butter
- 2 piece Lemon juice and zest
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla sugar
- 140 g Flour
- 0,5 packet Baking powder
- Food coloring yellow and green

- I found this great idea of baking a lemon cake on the internet. I tried to bake it up once with a few mistakes on my part. But I succeeded in the result and the family liked and tasted this surprise.
- I’ll write down the recipe for you here, just as I found it. I doubled the amount for my family as I don’t have such a small baking pan. In addition, I got a visitor just as I was starting to mix the ingredients together. When the visit left, I continued with the cake. When I got it in the oven, I realized my mistake. I forgot the butter. Now it has become a sponge cake dough.
- As always, first preheat the oven to 160 ° C O / U heat. Who has a square baking pan 18 x 18 cm with Bach paper? This form is required twice.
- First stir the sugar, vanilla sugar and eggs until frothy. I put 1 egg white of the eggs aside for the decoration. Then add the softened butter and stir together.
- Add the juice and the grated zest of 2 lemons. Mix the flour with salt and baking powder and add to the dough mixture and stir everything well.
- Divide the dough, mix 2/3 of the dough with the yellow food coloring. 1/3 of the dough is colored green. Just like a dish sponge looks like.
- Pour the yellow dough into the 18 x 18 cm form and smooth it out. Then bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes. Watch the baking process so that the cake does not get dark. Then let the dough cool on a wire rack.
- Put the green dough in the pan and bake for about 10-12 minutes as it is thinner. Then let this cool down completely.
- Now put the yellow dough sheet on a plate and coat with apricot jam, this serves as a glue. Then put the green dough sheet on top. Halve the cake so that you get 2 sponges.
- Now make the detergent from egg white, lemon juice and powdered sugar. Mix these 3 ingredients together vigorously, but do not beat too stiffly. Then decorate the cake with the dish soap.
- I used double the amount for a 26 cm springform pan and then cut it to size. For the filling, I mixed 100 g butter with 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, a little lemon juice and a little orange jam.
- I will bake this cake again for the next celebration, but then correctly as described in the recipe. I wish you a lot of fun baking.
