Ingredients for 1 servings:
- 200 g natural tofu, firm
- 1 tbsp, heaped cornstarch
- some sea salt
- some pepper, freshly ground
- some oil for frying (cooking oil, sesame oil, etc.)
- possibly spice(s), to taste
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes
vegetarian/vegan
Place the cornstarch in a 3-liter freezer bag along with a little salt and pepper. Do not pat the tofu dry; cut it into small cubes with sides measuring approximately 0.5 cm and place it in the freezer bag. Seal the bag tightly and shake until the tofu cubes are coated with cornstarch on all sides. You may need to add a little more cornstarch (approx. 0.5 tbsp). This depends largely on the type of tofu. Note: Instead of a plastic bag, use a can with a lid. Heat a little oil in a non-stick pan and fry the tofu cubes on all sides until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel and use as desired. Note: If a recipe calls for fried tofu, I prepare it according to that recipe. I then add the tofu to the dish at the very end so that the tofu warms up again but is not mushy. If you like, you can mix suitable spices into the cornstarch. E.g. paprika, curry, turmeric, coriander, chili powder, etc. There are no limits to your imagination.
