Red cabbage sweet and sour

Spread the love

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 2,000 g red cabbage
  • 250 g sugar
  • ½ liter vinegar (wine or red wine vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 8 cloves, whole

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 50 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

Grate the red cabbage, add it to a large pot with all the ingredients, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, turn off the heat and let the red cabbage simmer for another 30-50 minutes. While still hot, fill it into twist-off jars and screw on the lids tightly. The red cabbage can be eaten straight from the jar or served as a salad. Both taste delicious. To cook the red cabbage, proceed as usual: Sauté the onion in fat until translucent, add the red cabbage, chop one apple, and add it, along with a bay leaf. The red cabbage will be cooked in about 30 minutes.
