Ingredients for 6 servings:
- 500 g fish fillet(s) (matjes fillets)
- 2 apples, sour
- 3 large onions
- 3 gherkins
- 4 cups sour cream
- 3 cups of yogurt
- Juniper berry(s)
Instructions
Working time approx. 40 minutes; Rest period approx. 1 day; Total time approx. 1 day 40 minutes
a little thinner than usual
Cut the herring fillets into bite-sized pieces. Peel the apples and cut them into small pieces, as well as the gherkins, and slice the onion into rings. Place a layer of apples, onion, and cucumber in a bowl. Arrange the herring pieces on top, along with plenty of juniper berries, which should be lightly pressed with the blade of a knife to better release the flavor. Then spread a layer of the blended sour cream and yogurt mixture on top. Repeat this process until all of the mixture is used up. The top layer should be cream and yogurt. Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Mix thoroughly before serving. You can also use sour cream instead of sour cream; it tastes even creamier, but it will, of course, be a bit richer!
