Hot Dog Caprese

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 buns (hot dog buns)
  • 4 sausages (poultry sausages)
  • 1 mozzarella
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 tbsp basil
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • pepper
  • possibly garlic

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Wash and dice the tomatoes, finely dice the onion, and wash the basil, pat dry, and chop it. Place the tomatoes and onion in a bowl and toss with olive oil. Add a pinch of salt, pepper, and basil. If desired, stir in half a crushed garlic clove. Heat the sausages, drain the mozzarella, and cut into small pieces. Preheat the oven to 175°C (Gas Mark 2). Place the warm sausages in the cut-open buns and spread the tomato mixture over the hot dogs. To give the whole thing some stability, place the buns in hot dog cones (since I didn’t have any in my kitchen, I used paper lunch bags and cut them open on one side. My hot dog cone was ready). Spread the mozzarella over the hot dogs and bake in the oven for about 10 minutes.
