Sweet and sour pears

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • ¼ liter vinegar (white wine vinegar)
  • 150 g cane sugar or honey
  • 2 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • ½ tsp cinnamon, ground
  • ½ tsp saffron or turmeric
  • 50 g pine nuts
  • 5 star anise
  • 1 chili pepper(s), dried
  • 3 large pears, ripe, firm
  • 100 ml water
  • e.g. water, hot

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

In a saucepan, briefly bring the white wine vinegar, 100 ml water, sugar, cinnamon, saffron, pine nuts, star anise, and chili pepper to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, wash the pears and slice them lengthwise into approximately 3 mm thin slices (this works best with a bread slicer or a mandoline). Add the slices to the boiling liquid and pour on enough hot water to cover the pears. Simmer for another 1 minute. Then remove the pan from the heat and let the pears steep for 30 minutes. Remove the chili pepper. Serve the pears as a side dish with grilled or roasted meat—especially lamb.
