Ingredients for 1 servings:
- 2 packs of filo pastry
- 500 g butter
- 900 g walnuts, chopped
- 750 g sugar
- 1 liter of water
- 3 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 100 g pistachios, chopped, unsalted
Instructions
Working time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 20 minutes
Melt the butter over low heat and unroll the filo pastry on a work surface. Sprinkle two sheets of filo pastry at a time with walnuts, roll them up, and place them tightly together in a deep baking tray or suitable casserole dish. Cut the baklava rolls into bite-sized pieces and pour the melted butter over them. Bake on the lowest rack of a preheated oven at 180°C (top/bottom heat) for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Meanwhile, bring the water, sugar, and lemon juice to a boil in a saucepan, set aside, and let cool briefly. Remove the baklava from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Then pour the still-warm sugar water over the top and finally sprinkle with the chopped pistachios.
