Sweet and sour relish made from dried fruit

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 200 g mixed dried fruits, e.g. dates, apricots, pears, peaches, plums
  • 1 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 2 oranges, juice
  • 100 ml water
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • salt and pepper
  • n. B. ginger powder
  • e.g. chili powder
  • e.g. garlic powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

Cut the dried fruit into small cubes. Pour the orange juice over it and let it soak for about 30 minutes. In a saucepan, sauté the onions with a little oil until translucent, then add the fruit, juice, and water. Simmer uncovered over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Finally, season to taste with the vinegar, honey, and spices. Pour the relish into a jar, close tightly, and refrigerate once it has cooled. Note: I will let it mature for a few weeks, but that’s up to you. It tasted very good as it is. Dried fruit is ubiquitous in Polish cuisine, so I thought I’d make a spicy, sweet, and sour relish with it. It goes well with meat and the like.
