Meatballs filled with feta cheese baked in a tomato sauce

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g minced meat
  • 3 slice(s) bread(s), stale
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 150 g feta cheese
  • 50 g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 small onion(s)
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 150 g tomato paste, or 500 g pureed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp broth, instant
  • 200 ml water
  • 150 g cream
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3 drops of Maggi
  • 5 drops of Tabasco

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

For the minced meat, finely chop the onion and soak the bread slices. Mix the minced meat with the egg, onion, and bread, and season well with salt and pepper. Form the mixture into 10 balls, pressing a piece of feta cheese into each one. Sear the balls and place them in a baking dish. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). For the sauce, finely chop and sauté the onion, dust with flour, and deglaze with 200 ml of water. Add tomato paste, instant broth, cream, Tabaco, Maggi, and sugar, and season with salt and pepper. Pour the sauce over the balls and sprinkle with the crumbled feta cheese. Bake for about 30 minutes at 175°C (convection oven).
