Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 750 g Kritharaki (rice-shaped noodles)
  • 500 ml broth
  • 1 small bottle(s) of red wine, approx. 0.25 liters
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 ½ onions
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 kg minced beef
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • ½ tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 750 g mushrooms
  • 2 zucchinis
  • 2 cans of chopped tomatoes, approx. 400 g each
  • 1 cup of cream, approx. 200 g
  • 400 g feta cheese
  • 1 bunch of parsley

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Place the kritharaki in a pot with the broth and heat. Add a little more red wine and water or broth if needed. Heat a pan with oil. Sauté the onions and crushed garlic. Add the minced meat. Season with salt, pepper, cinnamon powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, and oregano, and fry until crumbly. Adjust the seasoning to taste. Place everything in a large pot and sauté the mushrooms and zucchini in the same pan. Add the chopped tomatoes and the remaining red wine to the minced meat. When the kritharaki are al dente, add the minced meat, mushrooms, and zucchini and let it simmer. Stir in the cream, crumbled feta cheese, and chopped parsley and simmer until tender.
