Wholesome – enough for 12 pieces
Put the flour, dried yeast, honey, milk, butter, egg, lemon zest, and salt in a bowl and knead everything with the dough hook of a hand mixer until you have a smooth dough. Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. For the filling, bring the milk to a boil and let the poppy seeds swell in it over low heat. Let it cool, then stir in the honey, vanilla bean paste, cinnamon, egg, almonds, and cornstarch. Roll out the yeast dough and cut into 12 squares. Spread the poppy seed mixture on top and press into buns. Grease a baking dish and place the buns in it. Let it rise for another 30 minutes. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 20 minutes. Brush with melted butter before serving. Serve with vanilla or wine foam.
