a dream for little boys
For the first batter, melt the chocolate in a bain-marie. Whisk the eggs, sugar, and butter in a bowl until fluffy. Add the remaining ingredients and finally stir in the melted chocolate. Pour the batter into a greased 30 cm loaf pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 1 hour. For the second batter, put all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well with a hand mixer. Pour the batter into a greased 25 cm loaf pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 1 hour. Assembling the two cakes: First, cut out an area of approximately 11 x 11 cm on one side of the smaller cake (lemon cake), only as high as necessary to ensure the surface is level (chassis). This means placing the knife at the top edge of the cake and cutting about 11 cm towards the center, withdraw the knife, and then cut again from the top. You’re essentially cutting out a kind of wedge (hood). Then cut an 11 cm thick piece from the chocolate cake that fits exactly over the cut-out area of the lemon cake (driver’s cab on top). Now cut about 3.5 cm thick pieces lengthwise on the left and right of the remaining chocolate cake (for the tracked gear). On these two pieces, cut off a long and a short piece at an equal angle from the top. This should not create a triangle, but rather a kind of flat, long house with a sloping, uneven roof. Cut the rest of the chocolate cake into pieces so that they can also be placed on the 11 x 11 cm area of the chassis (driver’s cab on the bottom). Now stack the pieces on top of each other as follows and “glue” them together with jam: Place the lemon cake (chassis) at the very bottom. Place the small pieces of chocolate cake (driver’s cab on the bottom) on the 11 x 11 cm area, then the 11 cm thick piece of chocolate cake (driver’s cab on the top). Place the cut-out wedge (hood) on the lemon cake, creating a slope that slopes forward. Now, cover the two tracked parts on the “visible” side with melted cake icing or chocolate coating and let it dry. For the cream, make a syrup from gelling sugar and water. Mix the gelling sugar with water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes. The syrup is ready when many bubbles have formed. It will now be slightly yellower and thicker. Beat the egg whites until stiff. When the syrup is ready, remove from the heat and immediately pour into the beaten egg whites in a thin stream. Continue beating with the mixer. Once everything is incorporated, continue beating for at least 5-7 minutes. Add the food coloring. The mixture should resemble the inside of a chocolate praline. Cover the “vehicle” with the cream. Save some cream to glue the tracked parts together. Place the two tracked parts to the left and right of the vehicle. If necessary, leave some air space or “stuff” with cake scraps and fill any gaps with cream. Spread cream on the tracked sections and place the halved chocolate bars (and possibly trimmed to 3.5 cm) on top to form tracks. For the windows, partially halve the chocolate slices (Eszet) and place them on top. The dozer blade consists of two Eszet slices. The rest can be decorated as desired.
