Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 300 g flour
  • 1 tsp anise powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 100 g butter, soft
  • 150 g sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 lemon(s), zest

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 35 minutes; Total time approx. 3 hours 5 minutes

Mix the flour, anise, baking powder, and salt. Cream the butter, sugar, eggs, and lemon zest until fluffy. Stir in the flour mixture. Quarter the dough and shape into rolls 3-4 cm in diameter. This works best with parchment paper. Chill the rolls for 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 180°C (top/bottom heat). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Unwrap the rolls, place them on the tray, and bake for about 25 minutes. Allow the rolls to cool thoroughly. Cut the rolls into 1 cm thick slices. Place the slices back on the tray and bake for 10 minutes at 180°C (top/bottom heat).
