Spelt bread

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 tsp honey
  • 500 ml water, lukewarm
  • 2 tbsp natural yogurt
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 500 g spelt flour (wholemeal spelt flour)
  • 1 tsp caraway powder
  • 1 tbsp sea salt
  • 8 tbsp sunflower seeds
  • Olive oil, for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 40 minutes

Dissolve the honey in 100 ml of lukewarm water, stir in the yogurt and yeast. Let stand for about 10 minutes until small bubbles form. Then add the remaining water. Combine the flour, caraway seeds, salt, and 4 tablespoons of sunflower seeds and stir into the liquid until a smooth dough forms. Grease a loaf pan (about 25 cm) and sprinkle with sunflower seeds. Pour the dough into the pan and let it rise for about 10 minutes. Bake the bread without preheating at 220°C (fan oven) for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 190°C and bake for another 40 minutes. Tips: Refine the dough with walnuts, roasted onions, fresh herbs, or diced ham, if desired. You can also use bread spice instead of caraway seeds.
