perfect for Christmas

Make a firm dough from flour and lukewarm water. The dough should stick a little to your fingers, so it’s best to add only a little water at a time. Let the dough rest for 1/2 hour. In the meantime, fry the breadcrumbs in a pan with a little oil until lightly browned. Peel and core the apples and cut into small pieces. Melt the butter, wash the raisins and mix together the cinnamon and sugar. Now divide the dough into 3 equal pieces. Roll out the first piece on a floured kitchen towel (with a pattern) until the pattern is visible through the dough. Then brush with butter, spread a few breadcrumbs on it, sprinkle with apples and raisins and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Using the towel, shape the dough into a log. Repeat with the other pieces of dough. Bake the strudel at 180 degrees Celsius for about 60 minutes, brushing with butter every 10 minutes. Depending on the power of your oven, the baking time may vary slightly. I always leave it in for only 50 minutes. Once it’s cooled, dust it with powdered sugar.
