Simple goulash

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg goulash, pork or half and half
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • Paprika powder, hot
  • 1 tsp, heaped allspice, more to taste
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 large onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 ½ liters of water
  • cornstarch

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 10 minutes

Dice the onion and garlic. Brown them with the goulash. Season well with paprika if you like it spicy. Otherwise, don’t use too much. Season with salt, pepper, and allspice. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add tomato paste and stir again. Add about 1.5 liters of water and simmer with the lid on for about 1.5 – 2 hours. Add more water and season to taste if needed. Thicken with cornstarch. I really like it when I add finely chopped tomatoes, peppers, and mushrooms, but the kids don’t like them, so unfortunately I usually have to make it without. I add the tomatoes and peppers at the end. It goes well with pasta, dumplings, potatoes, or red cabbage.
