Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 large onions
  • 2 pts. puff pastry, from the refrigerated section, large sheets
  • Salt
  • Black pepper, freshly ground
  • Sugar
  • 4 slice(s) butter, or margarine, or olive oil
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

baked vegetable onions in puff pastry

Halve the onions and make four 2 cm cuts along each edge along the cut edge. Halve the puff pastry sheets and place the halved onions on top, forming a pocket when folded. Season the onions with salt, pepper, and sugar and place a thin slice of butter on top. (Olive oil or margarine also works.) Lightly work the seasonings into the cuts. Now fold the pastry pockets closed and press the sides down with a fork. Brush the surface with egg yolk and bake on baking paper. Bake at 150°C fan-assisted oven for about 45 minutes, until the surface is crispy brown.
