Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F), fan oven 160°C (320°F), gas mark 3. Cream the butter with the sugar and vanilla sugar until smooth. Cut the marzipan into small pieces and stir it into the butter and sugar mixture along with the egg yolk and cardamom. Sift the flour and add it to the mixture. Combine everything with the dough hook of a hand mixer and then knead with your hands until you have a smooth dough. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Then shape the dough into hazelnut-sized balls and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Make a well in the center of the ball with the handle of a floured wooden spoon and bake in the oven for about 10 minutes. After baking, let the cookies cool slightly. Meanwhile, halve the chocolate candies and place them in the well in the cookies.
