Instructions
Working time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour
Melt the butter in a saucepan, add water and oil, and let cool. Put the flour in a bowl, add the butter mixture, a pinch of salt, and 1-2 tablespoons of sugar. Mix the mixture and beat the dough well for a few minutes. Dust a tea towel with flour. Remove the dough from the bowl and divide it into 5-6 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place it on the tea towel. Cover and let rest for about 10 minutes. In the meantime, peel and core the apples, then slice or dice them. Roll out a portion of dough and spread with about 3 tablespoons of cream. Arrange the apples and, if using, raisins on top, and sprinkle with about 2 handfuls of sugar and cinnamon. Roll up the dough. Grease a baking dish well and place the rolling pins in the baking dish. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit) and place the baking dish in the oven. Baking time: about 45-60 minutes. Mix the milk with about 50g of sugar and, after about half an hour, when the dough has browned, pour it over the strudel. If the strudel no longer fits in the pan, heat some oil in a pan and bake the strudel for about half an hour, turning it several times.
