Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 4 pieces of tomato peppers
- 2 eggplants, small
- 1 onion(s), finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp salt
- pepper
- 1 tsp paprika powder, hot
- 1 pinch of sugar
- 2 tbsp vinegar (wine vinegar)
- ½ cup(s) oil (olive oil)

Serbian ajvar
Bake the tomato, peppers, and eggplant in the oven at medium heat until the skins burst and begin to brown, and the vegetables are soft to the touch. Peel, halve, and deseed the baked vegetables. Mash the flesh on a chopping board until coarsely ground. Transfer to a bowl. Press in the garlic cloves, add the very finely chopped onion, pepper, salt, sugar, and paprika, and mix. Finally, add the vinegar and olive oil, stirring constantly. Serve as a sauce with grilled meat or enjoy on country bread as an appetizer.
