Alkaline salt: you need to know that
Healthy skin has a surface pH of 5.5. Stress or poor diet, among other things, can lead to acidification of the skin. The result: the pH value drops, which can lead to skin problems, among other things.
- To counteract such hyperacidity – or to prevent it – you can use alkaline bath salts. With a pH value between 7.5 and 8.5, the salts help the skin deacidify.
- Acidic waste materials such as pesticides, heavy metals, flame retardants, or air pollution are flushed out with the help of the salts through osmotic pressure. This brings your acid-base balance back into balance. Thanks to this deep cleansing of the skin, the production of new skin cells are stimulated.
- Minerals such as calcium or magnesium also help to relax the muscles. Thus, alkaline baths can provide relief from muscle cramps or sore muscles.
- Taking an alkaline bath regularly can contribute to healthy, soft, and glowing skin. In general, such a bath is suitable for everyone, including children. If you suffer from heart problems, high blood pressure, or diabetes, you should discuss an alkaline bath with your doctor beforehand.
- The alkaline bath salt can be used for foot, hand, or full baths. We recommend one to three full baths a week (maximum water temperature 37 degrees) to deacidify the skin. A bath should last 40 to 60 minutes, with an alkaline foot bath you should have 30 to 40 minutes left.
Ingredients of alkaline bath salts
Alkaline bath salts have a high pH value and can consist of several different ingredients.
- You will often find carbonates in basic bath salts, particularly sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), sodium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, and potassium bicarbonate.
- Natural salts (sea salt or crystal salts, for example from the Himalayas) as well as basic and natural earth and Sango sea coral are also components of basic bath salts.
- There are now many different manufacturers of alkaline bath salts on the market. You have to find out for yourself which composition is best for you. Additional aromatic oils, the consistency, and also the price can be decisive.
