baked apple in puff pastry
Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius (top/bottom heat). Wash the apples and core them, but do not peel them. Mix the raisins with the walnuts, cinnamon, and sugar, and add apple juice or rum. Let everything sit for a few minutes, then fill the apples with the mixture. Place each apple in the center of a square of dough and wrap it in the dough. Make sure the entire apple is covered with dough. Press the dough down slightly. Place the applebollen, smooth side up, in a lightly greased baking dish. Mix the egg yolk with the water and spread it on the dough pieces. Sprinkle all the apples with the remaining sugar. Bake for about 40 minutes. The applebollen are best enjoyed warm; they are also delicious with vanilla sauce or vanilla ice cream. The filling can, of course, be varied, for example, with marzipan, almonds, cranberries, etc. The recipe for applebollen comes from the Netherlands.
