Aubergines: Healthy Slimming Products

Eggplants are rich in fiber – they fill you up and get your intestines going. In addition, the eggplant is rich in nutrients and has an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect.

Eggplant has many healthy ingredients that affect our bodies in many ways. They are also real slimmers: 100 grams contain just 17 kilocalories – and a lot of water. For comparison: the same amount of potatoes has 73 kilocalories.

Bitter substances: Anatabine alkaloids relieve joint pain

Eggplants contain bitter substances such as the alkaloids solanine and anatabine. In large amounts, these can cause nausea and vomiting. But in a normal portion of aubergines, the anatabine alkaloids, in particular, are very healthy because they relieve joint pain in osteoarthritis, arthritis, and rheumatic diseases. And they also work for sciatic pain.

But the anatabine alkaloids in the aubergine can do even more: they ensure that more bile secretion is produced and thus help the liver to break down fat.

Secondary plant substances: Anthocyanins stabilize blood pressure

The purple skin of the aubergine is particularly rich in phytochemicals such as anthocyanins and phenolic acid. Anthocyanins protect our cells from free radical attacks and keep our vessels elastic, and our blood pressure stable.

Phenolic acid inhibits cancer development

The phenolic acids belong to the polyphenols. Of all the nightshade plants, the aubergine contains most of it. Laboratory tests have shown that phenolic acids, which include caffeic acid and ellagic acid, can even inhibit the development of cancer.

Low carbohydrate and cholesterol-lowering

Eggplants are low in carbohydrates, which is especially important for people with diabetes. By inhibiting various enzymes, aubergines have a positive effect on LDL cholesterol, which is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Leaky Gut Syndrome: Beware if you have multiple sclerosis or psoriasis

Those who suffer from an autoimmune disease such as multiple sclerosis or psoriasis should be careful with eggplant: Frequent consumption of the nightshade family, to which eggplant belongs, can lead to a permeable intestine, the so-called leaky gut syndrome. This in turn can be a cause of autoimmune diseases. People with such a condition can eat eggplant, but not in excess.
