Alkaline Diet: Reduce Weight Thanks To Alkaline Foods

This diet trend has long been popular with the stars and starlets – but is the alkaline diet really that effective? This is behind the concept of nutrition.

New diet trends keep flooding over to us from Hollywood – but they are not always good for much.

Stars like Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow have recently discovered the so-called alkaline diet, which promises not only to shed pounds but also to protect against diseases such as cancer.

Invented by nutritional therapist Vicki Edgson and chef Natasha Corrett, this diet is based on what are known as alkaline or alkaline foods.

The two women assume that an overly acidic body becomes ill more quickly, which is why acid-forming foods – such as meat, eggs, sugar, white flour products, cheese, coffee and alcohol – should only be consumed in small quantities.

This is to regulate the pH of the body.

These foods are allowed on the alkaline diet

The alkaline diet requires a complete change in diet. While the foods mentioned above allegedly over-acidify the body and make it a breeding ground for diseases, other natural products have an alkaline effect and form the basis for a healthy body.

Your diet should therefore consist of around 70% alkaline foods – including lots of fruit, vegetables, nuts and soy products – while acidic foods make up just 30%.

As Natasha Corrett explains to Glam magazine, “The body functions better when it’s in an alkaline state. The Western diet tends to be more acidic in the body.

Dairy products, red meat and poultry often make up a large part of our diet and while they provide our bodies with energy and protein, people don’t realize that it takes a lot for them to digest it.”

What does the diet bring?

In addition to weight loss, the alkaline diet promises a major health effect. It is said to prevent depression, heart disease, osteoporosis and even cancer.

Corrett describes, “When the body is in an alkaline state, you function better; you have more energy, you sleep better, you can concentrate better, your complexion is better, your eyes shine more and your hair grows faster.”

According to some health experts, however, this diet only has a rudimentary effect on the body’s pH value – it regulates itself.

A change can only be detected in the urine, which at least prevents kidney stones. However, diabetics and people with kidney problems should be careful with the alkaline diet and only change their diet drastically under medical supervision.

Alkaline diet: it’s all about balance

Whether it is actually the effects on the body’s pH that makes this diet trend healthy has not been proven.

What is certain, however, is that people who eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of water can live healthier lives and thus reduce their risk of developing cancer and other diseases.

In general, it is advisable to consume foods such as sugar, coffee, alcohol and white flour products only in small quantities – if you follow this, you should definitely notice positive changes.

However, you do not have to follow a specific diet in order to remain true to these basic rules of nutrition – because it has been known for a long time that a balanced diet is good for you.

If you still want to try the alkaline diet, you should be careful not to completely eliminate the so-called acidic foods from your diet, as this could lead to a nutrient deficiency.

If you pay attention to the right mixture, you can still hope for great results: Your immune system will be strengthened and you can also hope for a more beautiful complexion.
