HMR Diet: So Good Is The Supposed Miracle Diet Really

No more low-carb! Now comes low-fat! The HMR diet from America promises not only long-term weight loss success – the attitude to life is to be changed.

158 kilograms – that’s the weight of 2 1/2 normal-weight women. But that’s also the weight that 30-year-old US American Ryan Blocker lost in two years. And he did it with the HMR Diet – a low-fat diet developed by a subsidiary of the pharmaceutical manufacturer Merck – recommended to him during the treatment of his bombastic obesity in the hospital.

HMR Diet: The Goal

The goal of this diet is to lose weight in the long term. This is to be achieved by changing eating and exercise habits. Some meals are replaced by protein-rich shakes. A lot of fruits and vegetables are also incorporated into the daily schedule. Those wanting to lose weight are also told to make their lives more active. They also learn to take more responsibility and find a life strategy for themselves.

Many diets help people lose weight. However, if you want to be slimmer and healthier in the long run, you have to change your lifestyle.

HMR Diet: The Theory

The HMR diet offers meal replacement options: low-calorie shakes and meals, granola bars, or whole-grain cereals. In addition, patients should eat five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Eight glasses of water or other calorie-free beverages are also on the daily schedule. These measures replace the previously consumed, often high-calorie meals, snacks, and drinks.

Physical activity also plays an important role in the HMR diet. This is the only way to guarantee long-term weight loss success. Patients should exercise for at least 10 to 20 minutes a day. A casual walk to the workplace is enough.

HMR diet: The functionality

Actually, it is quite simple. One gets what one should eat sent. In the first phase, the first three weeks, you are completely supplied with food – only the fruits and vegetables should be bought fresh in addition. During this time, 1 to 2 pounds (about 450 to 900 grams) should come off the hips per week. On average, patients on the HMR diet lose about 23 pounds (about 10 kg) in the first twelve weeks.

In the second phase, patients then receive a monthly food delivery. Here, the diet has already been trained to such an extent that patients are trusted to be able to provide themselves with the right foods.

HMR Diet: The Science Behind It

Scientists from the American company Health Management Resources developed a slimming program 30 years ago to help people who are overweight. The special low-fat program is particularly popular in clinics because a lot of weight is lost in the first few weeks, but after that, there is long-term success due to a change in diet.

In private use of the diet, one is supported by the delivered food, weekly phone calls, and occasional meetings. The change of life attitude, the establishment of a healthy diet, and the increase in physical activity need support – the American researchers found out. Many success stories with the HMR diet can be found on the Internet. But mostly in English. Because still, the new Diet did not bring it to the European continent. In addition, it is quite expensive: Thus the entrance set for the first three weeks costs scarcely 300 dollars, in addition then still freshly bought fruit and vegetable. In the US magazine “News & World Report”, however, the HMR diet is listed among the top weight loss programs in 2015.

The HMR diet is based on American dietary guidelines. Our German counterpart to this: is the nutrition guidelines, set up by the German Nutrition Society (DGE). These guidelines specify, among other things, values for fat, protein, and carbohydrates that our daily food composition should contain.

A daily calorie intake of 2000 calories should be divided into percentages. In Germany, it is recommended to get 15 percent of the 2000 calories from fat. With the HMR Diet, it is to be 14 percent. What is low-fat for Americans has long been the guideline of the DGE in Germany.

HMR DIET: THE DIFFICULTIES

Currently, as mentioned, only U.S. Americans can benefit from the HMR diet. The company delivers and ships the food to its patients. There is not yet a German supplier who brings specially developed, low-calorie meals and shakes. But with the many success stories already making the rounds in the German media, we certainly won’t have to wait long for it.
