How to Inexpensively Whiten Yellowed Linen: The Thing Will be Like New

Yellowed white underwear will look like new if you use some tricks. Even the most expensive and high-quality white underwear turns yellow over time. It is possible to whiten such a thing at home, without harming the laundry and with the help of cheap remedies.

What you need to know before whitening laundry

Before washing, look for the label on your laundry and look for washing information. Some items should not be washed in the machine or soaked in boiling water. If the item is expensive and handmade, it is better not to experiment with bleaching, but take the laundry to the dry cleaner.

Before you proceed with the methods described below, try to wash the thing with normal bleach from the store. It is best to buy an oxygen bleach, as it is suitable for all types of fabrics.

How to bleach a thing with ammonia

Take 1 liter of hot water, and dissolve 3 tablespoons of bleaching detergent and 2 tablespoons of ammonia. Stir well. In this mixture, wash the laundry by hand, and then soak for 2-3 hours. Then wash the thing again and rinse it with cold running water.

How to whiten yellowed laundry with powder, oil, and baking soda

The method is suitable for cotton and linen, it removes even very old stains. Pour 250 grams of washing powder, 4 tablespoons of powder bleach, and 1 tablespoon of baking soda into an empty pan. Then add 4 tablespoons of oil. Pour this mixture into 10 liters of boiling water and put the laundry in. Put on a small fire for 20 minutes, stirring the laundry. Then leave the laundry in the mixture overnight and wash it in the machine.

How to whiten underwear with laundry soap and baking soda

This method is also effective but is not suitable for synthetic and delicate fabrics. Soak the laundry and rub it well with laundry soap on all sides. Put the laundry in a saucepan with 3 liters of warm water. Pour 3 tablespoons of baking soda, stir it, and leave it for 2 hours. Then put on low heat and simmer for about an hour. In the end, rinse things in warm water until they are clean.
