What is the softest bedding – types of fabrics
Let’s understand the types of bedding and its gradation in terms of softness. Here’s a ranking of fabrics from softest to stiffer:
- percale;
- jacquard;
- satin;
- linen;
- poplin;
- calico.
Let’s start with the last type because calico is the most common fabric. It is chosen for its durability, strength, and ability to retain the brightness of the pattern for a long time. However, these very qualities do not allow it to be at the top of the softest.
How to soften calico at home – options
The easiest solution to this problem can be ready-made fabric softeners and linen conditioners. However, if you like experiments and folk methods, then the following tip-hacks are for you:
- Place half a cup of baking soda in the drum before you start washing. It will strengthen the powder and work as a softener;
- Pour 125 ml of 9% vinegar into the rinse compartment. It will not only soften the cloth but also remove foreign odors from it.
Important: Do not use baking soda and vinegar in conjunction with bleach. This can ruin the bed linen. In addition, it is better to choose a lower threshold of temperature and spinning, so as to traumatize the fabric less.
Bedding prickles: what to do about the problem
If you want, you can make a homemade conditioner. It can be used both separately and together with shop-made. To do this, mix a glass of baking soda with a glass of water. Then you need to add 6 cups of vinegar, stir, and after a while pour as much more. To give the solution a pleasant aroma, you can add 20-25 drops of your favorite essential oil. It is better to store the remedy in an airtight container.
If after washing the laundry is still prickly, you can steam it. Now even the cheapest irons have this function. You can also slightly salt the water to enhance the effect.
