How to Wash By Hand and Not to Hate Laundry: Useful Tips for Housewives

In today’s world, where housewives come to the aid of sophisticated washing machines that wash, rinse and even spin the laundry themselves, there is still a need for hand washing. After all, you can’t throw in the machine delicate fishnet linen or an expensive chiffon blouse. And then there is the dirt, with which the washing machine simply can not cope. So, let’s take it in order.

For hand washing you will need:

  • A plastic basin, preferably with a washboard (this is such a wavy thing, on which you rub very dirty things. It can be sold separately, or be part of the basin itself). By the way, it is better to use a plastic basin, as metal ones can damage the bathroom, and they make a lot of noise;
  • washing powder or a special liquid detergent for hand washing;
  • laundry soap;
  • stain remover.

So you got a basin, powder, and a desire to wash your favorite underpants. What’s next? Sort! Yes, yes, modern housewives have to sort not only the garbage but also the laundry. It’s important. Very. Because if you wash white and, say, red together, God Himself can’t help you afterward. White things are likely to get such shades of pink that they haven’t been named yet. That’s why it’s extremely important to sort things by color! Light, dark, and colored – all wash separately.

Not only that, a new thing, which has never been washed, should also be washed separately. Suddenly it molts and gives the color of yellowish-brown eggplant.

But that’s not all! It is not necessary to wash together “shaggy” things and things made of smooth fabric. The fact is that the lint from the sweater will easily “make friends” with your black blouse, and then even the most vigorous rinsing may not help.

How to wash things by hand?

To remove difficult stains, you need to get the thing and soap the dirty place with laundry soap or use a stain remover according to the instructions (usually it is applied to dry fabric). After waiting 10-15 minutes, you can proceed to the next step.

Soaking. Do not neglect this step of washing, it will greatly facilitate the washing itself and improve the results. Dissolve a small amount of powder or liquid laundry detergent in a basin according to the instructions. Important: The powder must be dissolved in water completely because the remaining undissolved granules with the active substance concentrate can leave traces on the fabric. Usually, things soak for a time of half an hour to two hours.

After soaking, proceed directly to washing. If the stain is removed, the thing can be washed in the same water in which it was soaked. If not, then it is recommended to change the water, dilute more powder (according to the instructions) and wash by hand, paying special attention to the polluted areas: shirt collars, armpits, and stains. Here, by the way, it is time to use a washboard. Just rub the wet and soapy thing on it, but do not overdo it. You don’t want to rub until there are splashes, holes in your clothes, and sweat on your forehead.

It is important to note that you should soak and wash things in warm or cool water (the washing temperature is also usually indicated on the clothing label). It is worth doing this not only so as not to damage the fabric, but also so as not to harm the sensitive skin of your hands. By the way, if you collect a lot and often wash your hands, you can do it with gloves – so your hands will be safe.

When the thing is washed, it is obligatory to rinse it well. To do this it is better to use cold or slightly warm water – so the process will go faster. Rinse the garment several times until the water is clear.

Things that need to be washed by hand also need a gentle spin. There is no need to twist and stretch things as if you want to tear them. A gentle spin with such “squeezing” movements is enough. Some things, such as knitted sweaters, do not spin at all. They should be put in the sink or spread out on a special grid so that the water just drained from them – otherwise they will just stretch and lose their shape.

So, the basic steps of hand washing:

  • Sort;
  • Launder;
  • Soak;
  • Wash;
  • Rinse;
  • Gentle Spin.

Can I wash hand-wash clothes in the machine?

Sure, there’s nothing easier than throwing your dirty clothes in the machine, pressing a couple of buttons, and forgetting about laundry for an hour or two while diving headfirst into the events of your favorite TV show. But still. Is it possible to wash hand-wash clothes in the machine? This question worries many housewives. But only you can answer it yourself. Of course, hand-washable items may be washed in a machine, but only in a delicate mode and without spinning. But there is no 100% guarantee that the thing will remain in good condition. Still, delicate items, such as openwork underwear, it is better washed by hand.
