What to Treat Cabbage Against Insects: 10 Folk Remedies

Numerous aphids, caterpillars, cruciferous fleas, and other dangerous insects are the most unpleasant pests for vegetables. You can fight them with chemicals, but folk remedies will be just as effective.

Treating cabbage against pests and diseases

Many folk methods help to rid the plant of pesky insects. The main rule is to regularly spray the beds so that the substances accumulate on the leaves of the cabbage. Remember that this should not be done in sunny weather – it is better to wait for a cloudy day.

Infusion of tobacco from pests

  • What it helps against cruciferous fleas.
  • How to make: 200 g of tobacco leaves, pour 10 liters of hot water and infuse for 2-3 hours, then strain and add 1 tbsp of liquid soap.

Infusion of celery leaves.

  • Helps to cure: cabbage flies.
  • How to prepare: Grind 4 kg of celery stalks, pour 10 liters of water and boil for 30 minutes, then insist for another 2-3 hours. Before using the infusion cool, strain and add 10 liters of water to every 2 liters of the composition.

Potato decoction from insects.

  • What does it help: cruciferous flea.
  • How to prepare: 4 kg of potato haulm pour 10 liters of water and boil for 15 minutes. The resulting decoction should be cooled before use, strained, and dilute with water 1:1.

Treatment of cabbage from pests with vinegar

  • How to prepare: to 10 liters of water add 1 cup of 9% vinegar or 1 tbsp of vinegar essence, then check this composition on one plant. If everything is okay, you can spray all the cabbage beds.

Dandelion infusion for the garden

  • How to prepare: 500 g of fresh leaves and roots of dandelion grind through a meat grinder, pour the resulting pulp of 10 liters of water, stir, strain, and add 1 tbsp of liquid soap.

How to dilute ammonia from pests

  • From what helps: bears, ants, aphids, slugs.
  • How to prepare: Dissolve 10 ml of ammonia in a bucket of water and spray plants. You can add a little grated laundry soap to make the solution adhere better to the leaves.

Infusion of tomatoes and garlic

  • What does it help: cruciferous fleas, caterpillars.
  • How to prepare: 1 cup of leaves and stems of tomatoes and 1 cup of garlic grind through a meat grinder and dissolve in 10 liters of water. Strain the resulting infusion and add to it 1 tbsp. of liquid soap.

Infusion of chamomile.

  • What does it help: aphids, caterpillars.
  • How to prepare: 1 kg of leaves and inflorescences pour 10 liters of hot water and leave for 12 hours. Then dilute with water in a 1:3 ratio and add 40 grams of soap for every 10 liters of infusion.

Milk solution with iodine

  • What does it help: aphids.
  • How to prepare: in a bucket of water, dilute 500 ml of milk and 10 drops of honey. Regularly spray the seedbeds with the obtained solution.

Valerian solution for pests

  • What does it help: cruciferous fleas.
  • How to prepare: dissolve 1 vial of valerian in 3 liters of water, and treat the cabbage in dry, cloudy weather.

What to treat cabbage against caterpillars and slugs

Experienced gardeners say that red hot pepper helps well against slugs. You need to buy it in an amount of 100 grams, grind it, pour a liter of water, and insist for two days. Strain, every 0.5 glass of infusion diluted in 10 liters of water, add 1 tbsp of liquid soap, and spray the beds.

Also, to get rid of slugs, you can mulch the beds with spruce needles or dried nettles. Alternatively, shards of shells or eggshells can be used. Slugs don’t like thorns and won’t be able to get near your beds.
