Sauté the cabbage (cut into strips) and onions (roughly diced) in a thin layer of water in a casserole dish (or in a large frying pan). Add new water once or twice, stirring occasionally. Then add the vegetable lard and fry until lightly browned. Do not fry too vigorously, as this could result in a burnt taste. Now add the green spelt meal and fry briefly. Then mix the remaining ingredients with the vegetable stock and add it. Simmer everything for another 10 to 15 minutes, adding a little more water if necessary if it becomes too dry. You can also add 1 teaspoon of mustard to taste. The braised cabbage tastes good with potatoes or pearl barley.
