Bread roll casserole according to grandma's recipe

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 6 rolls, stale
  • e.g. raisins
  • 1 lemon(s), zest
  • 150 g nuts, ground
  • 1 apple
  • ¾ liter of milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes

Cut the rolls into thin slices and layer them in a greased baking dish with the raisins, lemon zest, nuts, and grated apple. Whisk the milk with the eggs, sugar, and vanilla sugar and pour over the rolls. Let the casserole stand for about 10 minutes. Then scatter the butter over the rolls and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 45 minutes. Serve with vanilla sauce or apple compote.
