Budapest goulash soup

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 600 g beef
  • 60 g lard
  • 250 g onion(s)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 ¼ liters of meat broth
  • salt and pepper
  • marjoram
  • Caraway powder
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • Paprika powder, sweet
  • Paprika, hot
  • 250 g potatoes
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 5 tomatoes
  • 1 can of mushrooms
  • Tabasco

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Dice the beef and brown it in hot lard. Roughly dice the onions and finely dice the garlic cloves, and add them to the meat. Sprinkle with flour. Pour in the meat broth, season, and simmer for about 40 minutes. Peel and dice the potatoes. Slice the bell peppers. Finely dice the peeled tomatoes. Quarter or slice the mushrooms. Add everything to the soup and simmer for another 30 minutes. The soup can be enriched with beans, kidney beans, carrots, etc.
