Can Crispbread Help You Lose Weight?

Crispbread is high in fiber and only about 40 calories per slice. It can therefore be a healthy and light supplement to a balanced diet – but you will not necessarily lose weight with crispbread.

At around 13 grams, a slice of crispbread is significantly lighter than an average slice of conventional bread. However, crispbread is usually less filling, so you tend to eat more of it. Care should therefore be taken when comparing the nutritional information of crispbread and other types of bread: make sure that you always compare information that relates to the same amount of bread, i.e. usually 100 grams. The correct information can be found on the packaging. Again and again you come across calorie information for crispbread elsewhere, which refers to just a single slice. If you end up eating significantly more, you can hardly lose weight with crispbread – because you often eat larger amounts of the topping at the same time.

Nevertheless, the crusty bread has some advantages: Because it was only baked for a short time, the nutrients in it are often very well preserved. It is, therefore, best to rely on whole grain crackers, which contain a particularly large amount of fiber and minerals. Very sweet variants with added sugar, on the other hand, are less useful for a healthy diet.

The wholemeal flour is ground particularly finely during production, which is why the type of bread is also tolerated by people who can have gastrointestinal problems when digesting whole grains. However, crispbread should not completely replace other bread. Due to the strong heating during the manufacturing process, acrylamide may be formed. As is so often the case, consumption in moderation is healthy.
