Candied lemons – the ingredients for the recipe

Three ingredients are enough to preserve the fresh aroma of the lemon:

  • 1kg lemons with the thickest possible peel in organic quality
  • 400 grams of sugar
  • 500ml water

Preparation of candied lemons

The preparation takes some time, but is not complicated:

  • Slice the lemons with a sharp knife. If you prefer candied lemon zest, cut the zest from the fruit and remove the white skin.
  • Boil the water and sugar in a large saucepan for about five minutes.
  • Add the lemon pieces to the syrup and simmer over low heat for two hours.
  • Remove the lemons and let them dry on a wire rack overnight.
  • Roll the candied and dried lemons in sugar.

Candied lemons with chocolate

Candied lemons taste great on their own or covered in chocolate.

  1. Melt dark or milk chocolate to taste in a water bath.
  2. Dip the candied lemons in the chocolate and let them dry.
  3. After about two hours, the chocolate lemons are ready.
