The cantaloupe melon belongs to the pumpkin family and is related to the cucumber. Nevertheless, it is traded as a fruit. The fruit is characterized by strong orange flesh with seeds in the middle. The green skin is rough and has a pitted surface.
Origin
The name of the cantaloupe melon goes back to the small Italian town of Cantalupo. It was first planted there around 1700. Today the melon comes mainly from Spain, France, and Italy.
Season
The cantaloupe melon is available from March to September.
Taste
The flesh of the cantaloupe melon is soft and has a very sweet, aromatic taste.
Use
