Carbohydrates are important sources of energy for the human body. Carbohydrates are one of the main components of food, along with fat and protein. We couldn’t live without carbohydrates.
What are carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates serve as energy carriers and often occur in the form of sugars (mono-, di- or polysaccharides) or starch. Nowadays we mostly take in too many carbohydrates, because sugary and starchy foods such as chocolate, pasta, cake, or chips are lurking around every corner. This can cause problems such as B. to lead to weight gain, tooth decay, or even restlessness.
Carb-Free – Vegetables and Salads
Most vegetables and almost all types of lettuce are low in carbohydrates. The exception to this is vegetables with a high starch content, such as As potatoes, corn, or legumes. These should be avoided with a so-called low-carb diet.
However, there are also some carbohydrate traps with vegetables that you can blindly stumble into. Did you know that fresh garlic is one-third carbohydrate? But tomato paste is also very rich in carbohydrates. So it is better to use fresh tomatoes.
Carb Free-Meat
Meat naturally has no carbohydrates. Only veal, beef, or pork liver put a few carbohydrates on the plate. In the further processing of meat and sausage products, however, sugar or other carbohydrate-containing additives can be used. Therefore always look at the list of ingredients or ask the butcher about the ingredients of the meat products.
Avoid using breadcrumbs when making meatballs. With these, you stuff your meatballs full of carbohydrates.
Carb Free – Fish
Fish and seafood are mostly carbohydrate-free. Flounder, herring, mackerel, or carp can be enjoyed as well as e.g. B. shrimp, lobster or crayfish.
Fruit without carbohydrates?
