like my grandma made
Heat the milk and margarine together, then combine with the remaining ingredients to make a yeast dough. Let it rise for about 30 minutes. Roll out to a thickness of 1 cm, cut into squares, and cut two notches into these. Tie the dough together by pushing one outer strip through the other two strips from the bottom. Cover and let rise for another 20-30 minutes. Fry slowly in hot oil and dust with powdered sugar while still warm. Caution: If the oil is too hot, the doughnuts will brown too quickly but won’t be cooked through! You can also refine the powdered sugar with vanilla sugar and/or cinnamon. They taste best fresh!
