  • 250 g cheese (Gouda, young or medium-aged)
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 tbsp rolled oats (large leaf)
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • some pepper
  • e.g. Oat flakes (large leaf) for breading
  • a little oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

meatless cheese and oat patties

Grate the cheese and mix thoroughly with the finely chopped onions, eggs, oats, and seasonings. Let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes. Form the mixture into 8-10 dumplings, roll them in the oats until well coated, and place them in a lightly oiled, heated pan. Flatten the balls one at a time while the cheese melts. Cook over medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Let cool slightly before serving so the cheese can firm up again. The meatballs taste great both hot and cold and are perfect for hamburgers or party buffets.
